## How to improve your programming productivity Hello, my name is Kedzel Mikhail, and this is my guide on how to improve your productivity while programming

Most of you are probably using Windows or Mac OS, some of the more adventurous folks might be using Linux, but regardless of the operating system you are most likely using a *Stacking Window Manager* 

## WM = Window Manager

#### A stacking window manager - is a window manager that draws all windows in a specific order, allowing them to overlap.



## Tiling Window Managers

A tiling window manager - is a window manager with an organization of the screen into mutually non-overlapping frames, as opposed to the more popular approach of coordinate-based stacking of overlapping objects (windows).



#### Benefits of *tiling wms* * Clean looking * Way less clutter * Every window is visible * Space is shared evenly between windows * Keyboard(home row) oriented mappings for moving between windows

### You need a UNIX system, preferably some Linux distribution * Ubuntu - too much stuff build in it * Arch Linux - pretty much nothing build in it at all * Manjaro - just perfect

1. Head to [manjaro's website](https://manjaro.org/download/) 2. Choose architect edition 3. While installing choose i3 as the window manager

There are many tiling window managers but i3 is the perfect one for a beginner * Good documentation * Very popular * Easy to get started with

#### Manjaro comes with i3 already configured a bit, so it is easier for a non experienced user

#### The point of using Linux is customizing everything to your needs so open the config file located at `~/i3/config` and start tinkering!

#### More stuff you can do * Customize your terminal * Use a different shell other than bash * Switch to Vim or emacs * Learn touch typing * Switch to a different keyboard layout(e.g DVORAK, WORKMAN)
